Richard Woodall was born in Solihull and studied Performance Arts at Middlesex University and singing at the Guildhall School of Music. He was a founder member of the reformed D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, for whom he has sung a number of roles and recordings, and toured to California. Richard sings regularly with the English National Opera, and has also worked with De Vlaamse Opera in Belgium. He has sung principal roles for Carl Rosa Opera, Crystal Clear Opera, Pimlico Opera (including the British premiere of Shostakovich's musical comedy 'CHERYOMUSHKI' - also recorded and subject OF a BBC television documentary), Kentish Opera, the Unicorn Arts Theatre, St Albans Chamber Opera, Civit Hills Opera and the Isle of Man Festival...Barbados Opera Festival, Heritage Opera, and Opus 1 Opera. Recent roles include the title-role in Rossini's 'The Barber of Seville' for New Devon Opera, the Viceroy in Offenbach's 'La Perichole' for St Albans Chamber Opera, and Dulcamara in Donizetti's 'L'Elisir d'Amore' for Heritage Opera. Richard was also involved in the highly acclaimed Cameron MacKintosh production of Lionel Bart's 'OLIVER', singing the role of the Knife-Grinder and understudying/playing the role of Mr Brownlow, following a UK tour, the production played for three months in Toronto, Canada. For Gawsworth Hall Festival Opera in Cheshire, his gallery of Gilbert and Sullivan roles has included Lord Mountararat in 'IOLANTHE', Don Alhambra del Bolero in 'THE GONDOLIERS', Wilfred Shadbolt in 'THE YEOMEN OF THE GUARD', and the title-role in 'THE MIKADO', a role he repeated at the Buxton International G & S Festival. Richard has also appeared in concert and cabaret, showcasing the music of Ivor Novello, Noel Coward, and Cole Porter.
